It is used as a randomizer
during the anionic polymerization of SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) to control the microstructure of the polymer,
providing high vinyl content and enhanced
distribution of styrene. It is usually used at a temperature above
50°C with alkyl lithium
initiator in a hydrocarbon
solvent, usually hexane.
