What Is Aerogel
SiO2 aerogel is synthesized by sol-gel process with tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) . The small particles of silicon sol form the nanoporous network structure through aging. The structure is modified to be hydrophobic by chemical process, then with replacement of fluids by carbon dioxide or ethanol in supercritical status, the air porous structure finnally formed when the gas evaporated. The final product has extraordinary thermal insulation performance.
Main characteristics of SiO2 aerogel:
Low thermal conductivity of 0.005~0.015 W / (m · K).
The high specific surface area is 1600 m2/g
High porosity of 99.8%
